Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Michael Kays on July 12, 2003:
For those that did not know Tom, you missed meeting one of God's happiest creations.
Tom was my roommate during Beast Barracks during the summer of 1990, where we truly get to see the human side of another person through the hardships and struggles we each individually endure. I had been through Beast Barracks before in 1989, so I anticipated a stressed, worried roommate that might need some help. I received the best shock of my life when Tom Witt came walking into my room on R-Day. He immediately smiled at me, introduced himself, and wanted to know if he could help me in any problems I was facing so far. That set the tone for our next 6 weeks together. Tom was an inspiration to everyone in B2 for his positive attitude on life and his ability to always see the good in people. He was always there to offer some help, bring a smile into your life, or sit down and just listen to you to what you had to say. He was so nice and considerate, it made you wonder what had made such a person so wonderful and kind.
Tom loved his family more than life itself. During some of the worst times of yelling or exercises, he would have a slight smile on his face because he knew his family was doing well and thinking about him. He loved them with all of his heart.
To his family, I thank you for bringing Tom into my life and allowing me to share in the wonders that only he could bring. Tom still smiles on you, even though you cannot see him. His love is with you, and I am sure you can feel it inside. I know I can. Tom still lives in a place where no one can touch him now...in our hearts. God bless you, Tom.
