As we all know, Willie had an indomitable spirit. After we graduated and I reached my first assignment, I was delighted to learn that Willie was also in the 28th National Guard Division in Germany. (Perhaps the reason for his resignation?) At least it didn't seem so lonely for me, the only RA officer in my battalion. Although we were not geographically close-he was in a different regiment-the long maneuvers were a little brighter knowing that I just might run into Willie somewhere out there in a tank. And it was a real pleasure when we did. It was always a bright and shining "event." Willie Winner will be greatly missed. |
