Robert Douglas Anderson

Born May 2, 1929 - Died September 1, 1988

Robert Douglas "Punjab" Anderson was born in South Bend, Indiana on 2 May 1929 and was appointed to West Point on a Senatorial appointment. His West Point classmates recall: "Six feet, three inches of solid tackle coming to us from the shadows of Notre Dame, Punjab was always, luckily for us, a congenial personage. Unhappy only when he failed to receive his Sports magazine, this 210 pounds of good nature was noted for his generosity. He breezed through West Point with hardly ever a worry, and when asked what the secret was always replied, 'Saaaaaaaack!'" Punjab went out for Football and made the A squad. He also went out for LaCrosse, Track, and Wrestling, as well for the Ski and Fishing Clubs. Punjab was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year. On graduation Punjab went in the Air Force and after pilot training reported to the 91st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron in Japan where he served from 1953 to 1954. Returning to stateside Punjab was assigned to SAC and served until he resigned his commission in 1956 as a Captain. He stayed in the United States Air Force Reserve. After leaving active duty Punjab took a position as Manager of the Vibra Driver Department, L. B. Foster Company then later as Manager of Control Methods for the Company.

Punjab was a Colonel in the Reserves when he died on 1 September 1988. Mrs. Robert D. "Joan" Anderson makes her home in Westfield, New Jersey.
