Carl Franklin Arnold was born in Jamestown, Arkansas on 12 February 1929 and was appointed to West Point from the 2nd Congressional District. His friendliness and easy laughter won him more friends than any man in the Corp." During his cadet days Carl was a Hop Manager all four years; on the Pointer staff plebe year; was with the Fishing, Skeet, Radio and Russian Clubs yearling, cow, and first class years; with the Camera Club first class year; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year. Upon graduation Carl went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to the 1st Armored Division in Korea where he served from 1952 to 1953 and was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished heroism against an enemy. In 1954 Carl resigned his First Lieutenant's commission and went in the investment business for himself; i.e. he "handles and manages only his own private investments."
