Robert Edmond Bauers
Born September 30, 1928 - Died March 27, 1995
Robert Edmond "Bob" Bauers was born in San Antonio, Texas on 30 September 1928 and was appointed to West Point as a Qualified Alternate.
His West Point classmates recall: "Bob, a Texan through and through, didn't get his bowed legs by standing around and watching others ride. In the not too distant future he hopes to put his saddle on a jet fighter. Although a goat at heart, he has always had time to give his opinion on beautiful women. Bob is well known for his sense of humor. A lover of good music and fine things, he usually gets what he goes after."
During his cadet days Bob was with the Spanish Club plebe, yearling and first class years; with the Ski Club cow and first class years; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.
Upon graduation Bob went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to his first duty station. In 1966 Bob was assigned to the Military Assistance Command, Thailand where he served until 1968 and was awarded the Commendation Medal for distinguished service.
Bob retired from the United States Army in 1973 as a Lieutenant Colonel. The May 1991 Assembly noted, "Also in CO Springs, Bob Bauer thrives on watching TV and walking his dog. Naturally, Hank Evans, an Instructor at the Pikes Peak Dog Obedience Club, invited Bob to attend his class. Hank didn't say whether of not Bob should bring his dog. Bob died in Colorado Springs, Colorado on 27 March 1995 where Mrs. Robert E. Bauers (Betty) makes her home. And the May 1995 Assembly published after Bob's death noted, "Bob Bauers lived in CO Springs. Two daughters live in the area; one works for MCI, the other for Digital Corp. The 3rd, a Ph.D, specializes in monkeys, much of the time in Thailand or Africa."
