Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jeff Elwell on August 6, 2003:

I forwarded the death notice of 1st Lt.Leif Nott to Iraq not knowing if my daughter Nicole '01 or her future husband, Jeremy Ussury '02 knew him. Little did I know.....
He lived next door to her for one semister. She was truly saddened by his death. Jeremy, on patrol, doesn't know of his death yet. I could tell from her words in her return E-mail that the sadness of this reality had struck home. She told me, as with all of the others who knew Lt. Nott, that his smile lit up the hearts of all who saw it. I'll remember that, for I was never so lucky to view that smile.

As has been said by others before me: "ALthough I never knew him..."

I will all miss his youth. I miss his spirt, all it stood for, and believed in. I miss his honor, His sense of duty and his courage.

To the family... As a parent, all I can say is, "There, but for the grace of God, go I"

I Thank my God & you for the son you gave to us, the Nation.

You are in my most humble prayers!
