Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Thomas E. Winner on January 30, 2006:

The kind words of my father's friends and classmates have been a real comfort to my mother and family.

Twice in the last seven years, I accompanied my pop to West Point for football games, along with my brothers. We spent one of those trips in the company of the inimitable James R. Hackleman and his son, listening to more than a few very funny stories.

My pop loved the army, and loved West Point, long after he had left them; his friendships with West Point classmates were of tremendous value to him. I will always remember those meanderings through the WP cemetery with him, I listening with rapt attention at the stories he told as we walked.

On behalf of my family, many thanks to all of you for your kind words. Pop would be pleased, and proud, to hear them.
