Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Kelly Sweeney McGinn on September 11, 2003:
Words cannot express my sadness about Pete's death. We were classmates together at the University of Virginia Law School. It was a privilege to get to know Peter during this period of his life as I witnessed him blossom in so many ways. During those three years he was the consummate law student and a very proud representative of the United States Army. He was a man of great faith who served as President of the St. Ives Catholic Law Students' Society and thereby fostered great fellowship among many of us who wanted to integrate our lives of faith with our lives of scholarship. Most importantly, Peter was a man who fell deeply in love with the lovely Colleen McInerney about whom he spoke with the deepest affection and who became his wife during our law school days. Their love's enduring legacy is their beautiful children, Mary and Ron, who were the lights of Pete's life.
Although there was much to admire about Pete, the quality that stands out most in my mind is that of fidelity to the things he cherished most - his family, his faith, the United States Army and to the law. The disease that took his life is an illness from which none of us is immune. Hopefully Colleen's courage in speaking openly about Pete's tragic death will lead others to seek help before another family has to suffer this deep a loss. I hope that all who read this eulogy will stop and say a prayer for Colleen and Pete's children, Mary and Ron, and ask the Lord to give his soul eternal peace with Him in paradise.
God bless you, Pete.
