Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Brandon Prisock on September 16, 2003:
To Ricks Family and Friends:
Today as my fellow Spartans and I waited for Rick to arrive I heard something above me. I looked skyward to see a pair of juvenile bald eagles soaring high over head. What an awesome sight on such a day of loss. I was then brought back to reality by the sound of automobile engines as the precession arrived. The Honor Guard to the left and the Cadet Guard to the right all ready to carry Rick back to days he has not too long left. The sight was surreal. I was unfocused by the image of the two eagles? towering over us and felt compelled to once again turn back to them. No sooner had I turned my eyes skyward I was touched by the sight of these two magnificent creatures slowly circling directly overhead no more than 100 feet clearly attentive to the goings on below. These beasts moved more peacefully than I have ever seen two mortal creatures move. It seemed as though these beasts were there to safe guard Rick and escort him to his maker. It was at that moment I felt at peace with what was happening around me. Though I did not know Rick as well as many others, namely Nick his roommate and his fellow classmates with whom he spent four arduous years, I can speak for his character. Rick was a role model man, a superb cadet, and I am sure a wonderful officer. I would like to extend my personal and most heart felt sympathies to Rick?s family and friends. We all will miss him. Rick was a truly unique man and I know we will all see him one day when it is our turn to go home.
Rick,
I wish I had made the effort to know you better. What I knew of you was that you were a man of deeds rather that words, a man of character rather than indulgence, a man I wish I had known better. Today the Long Gray Line is a little shorter and feels your absence. Have no worries for you shall always be loved and remembered.
From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother!
Until we meet again I wish you God Speed and eternal happiness!
