Jacob Pompan; Partner in Law Firm

Jacob B. Pompan, 77, a senior partner in the law firm of Pompan, Murray & Werfel and a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force , died of cancer September 12 at his home in Alexandria.

Colonel Pompan graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1948. He subsequently obtained a master?s degree from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and a law degree from the George Washington University Law School.

During his military career, Col. Pompan drafted regulations for the Defense Department as a representative of the Secretary of the Air Force. He was a frequent lecturer on procurement at Defense Department schools, including the Air War College. He was an associate professor at George Washington University?s business school, where he taught about the procurement process. In 1970, he became director of procurement and products at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 with the rank of colonel.

After leaving active duty, Col. Pompan began actively practicing law, providing government contract advice to national and international clients. He worked until shortly before his death.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yvonne, a daughter, Jacqueline Pompan, and a son, Joseph, all of Alexandria, and a sisrer.
