Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Gene Mechling Col. USAF Retired '49 on November 4, 2003:

I am an old member of the Long Grey Line - Class of '49. I didn't know Todd, but as a soldier and West Pointer, but I know the stuff that he was made of.

I can not tell you all how PROUD I am of Todd, and troops like him, who have put their life on the line for us and for this great Country! What a tragedy for someone so young, talented and dedicated, with such great potential in his future to have died for us!

I know that what you folks are going through now is overwhelming, but look up and be proud and thankful to have been his wife, his parents and others close to him. In my life time, I have lived through three wars. They were wars that were fought for the same reasons that Todd served and died for today. Many of the most talented in my Class, and others before and after me and non Academy men certainly paid the price for the freedom that we still strive to retain today.

God bless you, and Todd, and DON'T grieve love ones - be PROUD, stand tall for an American patriot which Todd IS and always will be! Don't let his death shake your resolve to fight for what is RIGHT by our Nation and those oppressed in this world!

I salute you Todd for doing your Duty, and by your Honorable Service to your and our Country!!
