Be Thou At Peace

Posted by The Berg Family on November 6, 2003:

Jennifer, Larry, Linda, Tim and Tiff,

It is with great love and honor that we remember Todd. We remember best his wit and mischievousness, a maturity well beyond his years, his infectious smile and laugh, and the way he approached his life with purpose, drive and tenacity. We were honored to look close up at a family who are devoted to one another and in fact define the very word "family" for those of us who have the privilege to call you friends. It would be hard to miss the love and devotion you all have for Todd. Thank you for sharing him with our family. If ever there was a family who understood and lived 'Duty, Honor, Country,' it would be yours. Most assuredly, Todd is the epitome of all three.

I would like you to know that as the days have gone by this week and I have shared this with people who will never know Todd, they have ALL expressed sadness at this loss and gratitude for his sacrifice and yours. This is an ache we all share together, be it stranger, friend or family.

In a speech given at Pointe du Hoc on the 40th Anniversary of D-Day, Ronald Reagan included these words written by Stephen Spender, which seem so fitting.

". . .who in their lives fought for life
Who wore at their hearts the fire's center.
Born of the sun they traveled a short while towards the sun,
And left the vivid air signed with their honor."

You have honored and humbled us all Todd. We'll miss you always.

With love,
Marissa, Heather, Kirsten, David, Chad, Marty & Nancy
