James Francis Adamouski

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Rich Malloy on November 8, 2003:

I did not know Cpt. Adamouski personally. However, I have just completed a long, several years at length, period of study and learning as I completed a soon-to-be published novel. The novel was in part focused on fictional graduates from the USMA Class of 1995. I am exceptionally grateful to members of that and other classes at West Point for the help I recieved during the period I spent learning about the academy and about life there. I was made all the more cognizant of the price paid by Cpt. Adamouski and countless others, in repayment to the nation for an education, they gave and continue to give the highest price anyone will ever be called upon to pay. The exchange, in my mind, leaves the nation forever in their debt.

On a recent visit to Washington, DC I had the great honor and very emotional opportunity to travel to Arlington and pay respects at the Captain's grave. I did this I suppose because of the many alumni from 1995 I have come to know and because in many ways the Captain was the representation of many of the wonderful characters I came to know and invented subsequently. I felt the need to say thank you to him, to them, and to offer the prayer that this all ends, soon. My condolenences which I know are hollow are extended to his wife, his parents, his family and friends; and to the many alumni who have or will be called upon to answer the call.

May this and all future calls end soon. And may the repayment to the nation for an education be paid in a commodity far, far less precious.
