Many people have described Todd?s sense of humor and epic charm. But Todd treated with deadly seriousness his responsibility as a citizen. From Cub Scouts, which is where I knew him, to his enrollment at West Point, and his service in Iraq, Todd had an underlying serious purposefulness which is rare today. Though we do not all agree about this war, without the Todds of this world we would have few choices when confronted with events such as those which occurred on September 11, 2001. May his sacrifice and that of the others serving and dying today have meaning, and may this sacrifice result finally in peace, not just for Todd and his family and friends who will miss him, and in whose memories he lives on, but for the world. We will remember, and we will try to make it different next time. |
