HAYDEN JULIAN BAYER

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Hayden Julian Bayer, formerly of Bangor, presently of St. Petersburg, Fla., passed away on May 29, 2003. He was born in Bangor, Dec. 30, 1924, son of Harry L and Alfreda (Byer) Bayer. He is survived by his wife, Evonne June, to whom he was married for 54 years; daughters, Susan Dressler and her husband, Neil, of Springfield, Tenn., Melissa Bayer of Falls City, Wash., Lynne Lamphier and her husband, Jonathan, of Concord, N.H., Lisa Bayer of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and son-in-law, David Clark of Bangor; his brother, Arthur Bayer of South Natick, Mass.; and his grandchildren, Randi and Sam Dressler, Sarah Moe, Becky Watson, Lauren, Rachel and Jonathan Lamphier, Abbie and Ben Clark; and a niece and nephew, also survive Hayden. He was predeceased by his daughter, Alison Clark. He attended local schools and graduated from Bangor High School. While attending Culver Military Academy, he was drafted info the U.S. Army, in which he served until he received his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Upon graduation in 1948, he was commissioned and once again served in the U.S. Army. In 1953, Hayden moved from active duty to civilian life. After relocating to Bangor, he went to work at the family-owned business, The Byer Manufacturing Co. in Orono. Upon the retirement of his father, he became its President until 1984 when the business was sold. In 1987, he and June retired to St. Petersburg, Fla. Hayden's interests were many and varied including skiing, camping, power boating and sailing. He was past Commander of the Penobscot Bay Power Squadron and a member of the Dolphin Sailing Club in St. Petersburg, Fla. At the time of his death, he was president of the Isla Del Sol, Palma Del Mar No. 1 Condominium Association. Funeral Services and inurnment will be conducted at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Those who wish to remember Hayden in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
