Be Thou At Peace

Posted by The Huss Family on November 13, 2003:

We have wrestled with writing this eulogy. How can you capture the joy and wonderful memories of this fine young man with a few chosen comments. I can still see his smile in my mind's eye each time I pause and think of him. Todd's sense of humor, his rapier wit, and positive outlook on any given situation made each day a little bit better.

Todd was Eric's roommate during the plebe and "yuk" years at West Point and a bond of friendship was formed that few people experience. Todd became Eric's best friend, mentor and co-conspiritor in events that parents should never khow about. Thank you Todd for being there for Eric and helping him become a good man.

We were lucky to have Todd spend Thanksgiving with us a couple years ago and a few events will always stay with us. Wisconsin was a different experience for this "California Boy".

When we picked the boys up from the airport we toured the Milwaukee skyline and downtown (about 5 minutes) and quickly passed through the metropolitan area (another 10 minutes). Todd was amazed at all the farms, cows and corn. It proved that Eric was the country hick as he had expected.

Todd's visit to a local restaurant which featured family style (all you can eat Prime Rib) prompted a contest between Todd and Joel (Eric's brother). A draw was declared at 14 slices each, but Todd woke the next morning with what he described as a "meat hangover".

The best known event was Todd's wonderful experience of Wisconsin deer hunting. As you all are aware, Todd scored expert in marksmanship at West Point and was extremely proud of this accomplishment. As luck would have it the opportunity to bag a deer came the first morning. Todd missed three times, with the deer standing at about 15 yards. Todd discovered what "buck fever" meant and promptly earned the nickname "deadeye".

The Huss family thanks you (Jen & the Bryant Family) for sharing this wonderful man with us these past few years. True friends are rare in life and Eric was extremely lucky find such a great one.

God Bless

The Huss Family
