Eben Nathaniel Handy, Jr.

Born May 22, 1926 ? Died August 11, 2002


Eben Nathaniel Handy, Jr., was born in Whitley City, Kentucky on 22 May 1926 and was appointed to West Point from the 9th Congressional District.

At West Point was a member of the Forum and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

He classmates noted: "A native of the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky, Eben came to the Academy well aware of what his future held after serving with the occupation forces in Germany as an officer and attending USMAPS. A good natured hive with a big smile, he could always be relied on to lend a helping hand to any of his classmates who were in need. His ability and determination insure his success."

On graduation Eben went in the Corps of Engineers. He reported to the Engineer Corps Training Center and served through 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he served with the 406th Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe. On return to the States from Europe in 1954 Eben resigned his First Lieutenant's commission and embarked on a business career. He accepted a position in Marketing with General Electric and wound up in the Engineering Planning Division with the Corps of Engineers in 1968 from where he retired in 1973. Eben made his home in Louisville, Kentucky. He died on August 11, 2002.
