Born December 7, 1928 - Died December 24, 1993
Jerry Shannon "Okie" Ingram was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on 7 December 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the 2nd Congressional District.
At West Point his classmates commented as follows: "Okie came to us from the sunny Southwest. He brought with him an abundant supply of sunshine and gentle humor which fell on all of his associates. An individualist and not strict adherent of the established customs, Okie did a thorough efficient job with the least possible effort. Wherever he is, his good humor cannot fail to make an impression on everyone, and a good one at that."
At West Point Jerry was on the Election Committee his Cow year, on the Model Railroad Club Yearling year, and was a Cadet Sergeant his First Class year.
On graduation Jerry went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, Georgia reported to the 14th Infantry Regiment, 25 Division in Korea in 1952. Jerry was severely wounded in combat and was decorated with the Purple Heart for wounds in action against an enemy, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was retired as a First Lieutenant in 1953 because of physical disability due to the wounds received in combat against the enemy. Jerry died on 24 December 1993. His widow Peg makes her home in Crofton, Maryland.
