Robert Louis Jacobs

Born March 9, 1927 - Died 25 February, 1998

Robert Louis "Bob" Jacobs was born in Virginia on 9 March 1927 and was appointed to West Point from the United States Army.

His West Point classmates recall: "Another great from the 'Tarheel State,' Bob has been the epitome of the Southern Gentleman. During his four years at West Point he has shown a great thirst for all kinds of knowledge. Bob believes in the law of averages except in the case of blind dates where he has never dated the girl of his dreams. 'They are all "D"!' Ever appreciative of art, Bob admires grace and symmetry."

During his cadet days Bob went out for Track and was on the Pistol Team plebe year; was with the Art Club plebe and yearling years; with the Russian Club yearling, cow and first class years; and was a Cadet First Sergeant of Company C-2 his first class year.

Upon graduation Bob went in the Air Force and after flying training reported to Vermont as a Fighter Pilot served until 1955. In 1958 Bob was assigned to the 444 Flight Squadron.

Bob retired from the United States Air Force in 1970 as a Major and went in the Carpet Export business in 1971, a position he held in Summerville, South Carolina until his death on February 25, 1998 of congestive heart failure. The funeral and burial were private. Surviving are his wife Lyda Bell Jacobs; sons Robert L. Jacobs Jr. of Holladay, UT, and George D. Jacobs of Summerville; daughters Mary McMillim of Conyers, GA, and Nancy Oltmann of Summerville; sisters Ruth Ruggerio of Cope, VA, and Patricia Swindell of New Bern, North Carolina; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Jacobs (Lyda Bell) makes her home in Summerville, South Carolina.
