Lincoln Griffin Jones

Born August 11, 1928 - Died January 30, 1986


Lincoln Griffin Jones was born in Washington, D. C. on 11 August 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the 11th Congressional District of Texas.

His West Point classmates recall: "Jones, Lincoln Griffin, retired Texas Aggie and paratrooper. Born 11 August 1928. Graduated 5 June 1951 after a long illness diagnosed as acute dragoiditis. While attending West Point Jones lettered as quarterback of the goat varsity. He was also an after dinner speaker of some re-known. His effervescent personality will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his roommates."

During his cadet days Jones was a Sunday School Teacher plebe and yearling years; was with the Spanish Club cow year; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

Upon graduation Jones went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, Georgia reported to Camp Breckinridge where he served from 1951 to 1952 when he went as Company Commander with the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division in Korea; served from 1952 to 1953 and was decorated with the Silver Star for distinguished gallantry in action and the Combat Infantryman Badge. In 1958 Jones was selected to attend the Army Aviation School and on completion was assigned to the 24th Aviation Company where he served from 1959 to 1960. From 1960 to 1961 Jones served with the 110th Helicopter Company and then in 1963 earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington. Jones's last military assignment was to Headquarters, Army Combat Development Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia in 1963 where he served until he retired disabled from the United States Army in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel and later in the same year accepted a position as Project Manager with Value Engineering.

Jones died in Gainsville, Florida on 30 January 1986. His widow, Mrs. Lincoln G. Jones (Betty) makes her home in Ocala, Florida.
