Born December 13, 1928 - Died November 11, 1995

Albert Ray Knight, Jr. was born in New Jersey on 13 December 1928 and was appointed to West Point as a Qualified Alternate from Massachusetts. At West Point his classmates recall: "Arriving at West Point two weeks after his classmates, Ray showed everyone his New England background was in keeping with military decorum. Bouncing through Plebe year, Ray fought the Academic Department to many close decisions, emerging victorious in all encounters. His only scars were an occasional 'lost week-end,' so he is awaiting graduation leave with much anticipation." At West Point Ray was a member of the Russian Club and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation Ray went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, Georgia he reported for his first duty assignment to the Infantry Company at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania where he served through 1951. Next Ray served with the 43th Division, and the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Division in Europe where he served from 1952 to 1953. In 1959, Ray was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea and on completion was awarded the Commendation Medal for distinguished service. In 1966, he went to Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 25th Division, Republic of Vietnam where he served until 1968. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished heroism against an enemy, and the Combat Infantryman Badge on completion of his tour. Ray's last military assignment was as Deputy Chief of Staff at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he served as such until 1970 when he resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After his military service, Ray went back to school and earned a Masters degree in Education from Trenton State University in 1974 and accepted a position with the Treasury Department of the State of New Jersey.
