Robert Bruce Lins

Born March 29, 1925 - Died March 23, 1997

Robert Bruce "R.B." Lins was born in Virginia on 29 March 1925 and was appointed to West Point from Pennsylvania in 1946.

His classmates had the following to say about R.B.: "Climbing under his Brown-Boy in '46, he emerged five years later a second lieutenant. His weekend hours seemed to be spent surrounded by beautiful women who were married when he cast aside the grey. His name will long be remembered by many instructors, who will confirm him as the most intelligent goat ever to spec his way through West Point. When the chips are down, R.B. is your boy."

R.B. was on the Chapel Choir and on the Glee Club all four years at West Point. He was on the Camera Club for three and on the Forum for two and went out for Soccer his plebe year. He was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation R.B. went in the Artillery. He resigned his Regular Army commission as a Captain in 1958. The November 1997 carried the sad news, "Robert (Bobby) Bruce Lins died on 23 March 1997 in a nursing home in Auburn, ME, after a long illness. He was buried in Veterans Cemetery at Augusta, ME, on 29 March 1997. A memorial service was held for him on 11 May 1997 at the Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland, ME. He is survived by his sister, Connie McGown of Chappaqua, NY; son Alex of Portland, ME; and a granddaughter Vanessa Lins of Westbrook, ME."
