His West Point classmates recall: Gabby's stay at West Point has been very eventful. He is seldom seen without a drag on weekends. He was with the Ski Club plebe and yearling years; went out for Baseball and Basketball plebe years; for Boxing yearling year; was with the Portuguese and Railroad Clubs cow year; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year serving as his Company?s Supply Sergeant. Upon graduation, he represented the US in the Olympics of 1952 in the Pentathlon.
Gabby then went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to Korea where he served as a 105 mm Howitzer Battery Commander. Gabby resigned his commission as a first Lieutenant in 1954, remained in the Reserves, and attained the rank of Captain.
He joined the FBI and obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University in 1961 by studying and attending classes for five years at night. He left the FBI and founded several companies to include a worldwide securities investigation company, an advertising company and Trans American Travel Services where he served as Chairman of the Board from 1974 until his death from Leukemia in 1986.
