Born July 17, 1926 - Died March 25, 1993
Edward Lauriston "Ed" Zuver was born in Melrose, MA on 17 July 1926 and was appointed to West Point as a Qualified Alternate. His West Point classmates recall: "Ed, being an Army Brat, naturally picked the Army. His aims at West Point were interrupted by a hitch in the Infantry, but finally after three tries he was accepted. Not having time to do many things, he managed to get enough tenths if the time called for it, especially if a weekend leave was due. In looking over vexations every day Ed found words for the Tactical Department." During his cadet days Ed was with the Chapel Choir and the Glee Club; went out for Soccer and Track; was with the Weight Lifting, Camera and Portuguese Clubs; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year. Upon graduation Ed went in the Infantry and after completing the Basic Infantry Course at Fort Benning, GA served in Recruit Training with the 8th Division at Fort Jackson, SC from 1951 to 1952 when he received orders to report to the 15th Infantry, 3rd Division in Korea where he served until 1953 and was decorated with the Combat Infantryman Badge. From 1953 to 1960 Ed served as Company Commander and as Operations Officer with the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY and in Germany. From 1960 to 1962 Ed served as Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Oregon and then went to the Special Warfare Center, Eglin AFB, FL and served until being ordered to the Republic of Vietnam where he served as an Advisor to the Vietnamese Army from 1962 to 1963 and was decorated with a second Combat Infantryman Badge. On his return to stateside Ed was assigned as Commanding Officer of the Reception Center at Fort Ord, CA and he held that position until 1965. Ed's last military assignment was as Team Leader with the 1st Special Forces Group in Okinawa from 1965 to 1968 when he resigned his commission as a Major and returned to civilian life and became associated in Energy Research.
He also wrote science fiction novels and looked forward to the future and that one big 'best seller.'
Ed died in San Diego, CA on 25 March 1993.
