Born December 7, 1928 - Died April 2, 1966

William Lloyd "Bud" Richardson, Jr. was born in Hawaii on 7 December 1928 and was appointed to West Point on an At Large Presidential appointment.

His West Point classmates recall: "Bud always felt at home at West Point among all the other Army brats. His enthusiasm for everything about the Air Force from jets to sky-blue uniforms has never been dampened by his ground-pounding wives. From the first day of Beast Barracks to Graduation, Bud attacked every task with a hard working zeal that has astounded many a man. With this drive the future can offer nothing but success."

During his cadet days Bud went out for Soccer all four years and served as Manager his first class year; was with the Ski Club cow and first class years; and was a Cadet Captain his first class year serving as Company Commander of M-1.

Upon graduation Bud went in the Air Force and after flying training reported to the 319 Flight Squadron in Korea in 1953 and was decorated with the Air Medal for meritorious achievement beyond that normally expected, while participating in aerial flight. Bud's next assignment was to Moody AFB where he served from 1954 to 1955. In 1956 Bud earned a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University and in 1957 was assigned to the Staff & Faculty at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado and served until 1960. From 1961 to 1964 Bud served with he 390th Tactical Fighter Squadron in Europe and then went to the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam where he served until 1966 and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for distinguished heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight; 23 Air Medals for meritorious achievement beyond that normally expected, while participating in aerial flight; and the Purple Heart for wounds in action against an enemy.
