Ronald Arthur Roberge

Born December 28, 1928 - Died July 6, 1998

Ronald Arthur "Ron" Roberge was born on 28 December 1928 in Biddeford, Maine. He was appointed to West Point from the state of Massachusetts from the 4th Congressional District.

At West Point he was remembered as follows: "Blessed with the Academic know-how, Ron enabled less gifted members of the 'long grey line' to pull through. His easy conquest of books has made him an heir to mounds of paper work which he conquered in the true style of an Engineer. Boasting a notorious accent, Ronnie steps out into his chosen profession with a warm smile and a friendly word to all who might chance to pass his way." During his cadet days Ron was on the Debate Council and the Chapel Choir all four years. He was on the Forum during cow year and served as Secretary, and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation Ron went in the Corps of Engineers and reported to the 21st Engineer Combat Battalion with which he served from 1951 to 1952. He next reported to the 1092th Engineer Combat Battalion during the Korean War in 1952 for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal on completion of his tour in 1953. His next duty assignment was to the United States Engineer District San Francisco, California where he served from 1953 to 1954. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts where he earned a Master of Science in Civil Engineering 1957. Ron's next assignment was to Headquarters, 7th Engineer Brigade from 1960 to 1962. Next came an assignment to the Military Art and Engineering Department at USMA from 1962 to 1965. Ron then attended the Command and General Staff College, Fort Levanworth, Kansas in 1966. He was then named Provincial Senior Advisor Republic of Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Air Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Next Ron went to the Office, Assistant Chief of Staff, Forces Organized Reserves in 1968.
Next he was named Commanding Officer 7th Engineer Battalion Fort Carson and served from 1970 to 1971. He attended the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania in 1972. He then went to Organization, Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1972 to 1975 and served as J5. Ron's last military assignment was to the Staff and Faculty Army War College from 1975 to 1981 when he retired as a Colonel and received a second Legion of Merit. After retirement Ron was a Senior Analyst with Ketron from 1983 to 1991.

Ron and his wife Scotty made their home in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where Ron died on 6 July 1998.
