Born December 8, 1928 - Died February 18, 1982


Donald Ray "Don" Schwartz was born in St. Louis, Missouri on 8 December 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the 13th Congressional District.

His West Point classmates recall: "After a year at Washington U. and a short time in the Army, Don received his long-awaited appointment to West Point. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and seeing that everyone in the company kept pro. As company academic coach cow year, however, he often found himself studying quite a bit. He will probably go in the Air Force, but whatever the choice, success is sure to follow."

During his cadet years Don went out for Track plebe and yearling years; was a Sunday School Teacher yearling, cow, and first class years; was with the Dialectic Society and the Forum first class year; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

Upon graduation Don went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to the 45th Anti Aircraft Battalion in Europe where he served from 1951 to 1955. On return to stateside in 1956 Don resigned his First Lieutenant's commission and accepted a position as an engineer with Douglas Aircraft Corporation, a position he held until 1979 when he went with Gelco Corporation.

Don died in Santa Barbara, California on 18 February 1982.
