Philip Sheridan

Born October 23, 1927 - Died October 28, 1973

Philip "Phil" Sheridan was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on 23 October 1927 and was appointed to West Point from the Army of the United States.

His West Point classmates recall: "When the model railroad club needed a new engine, Phil would meticulously slap one together. Phil also stood alone as the only living witness to good looking blind dates. For some reason he never missed, and weekends in his room were few and far between. No wonder he looked happy. If he keeps that smile, Phil can't miss being successful. And then there is the one about the alarm clocks..."

During his cadet days Phil was with the Debate Council, the Ski and the Model Railroad Clubs all four years; on the Howitzer staff plebe, cow and first class years; with the Chess Club yearling year; with the French Club cow and first class years; with the Radio Club yearling, cow land first class years; and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

Upon graduation Phil went in the Air Force and after flying training to qualify as a Navigator reported to the Tactical Air Command, Langley AFB, Virginia and later to Military Air Transport Service where he served from 1953 to 1957. From 1958 to 1963 Phil was a B-52 Navigator with the Strategic Air Command, Offutt AFB, Nebraska then from 1963 to 1965 he was assigned to Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson, Ohio. In 1966 Phil was assigned to the United States Air Force Intelligence Threat Analysis and at the same time earned a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University. Phil's next assignment was to Headquarters, Air Force Europe where he served from 1965 to 1968. Next Phil received orders to Headquarters, 7th Air Force where he served from 1968 to 1969. Phil was serving at Headquarters, 42nd Bomb Wing as Chief of Intelligence, with rank as a Lieutenant Colonel, when he drowned in Guam on 28 October 1973.
