Louis John Storck

Born April 4, 1928 - Died October 6, 1952

Louis John "Lou" Storck was born in China on 4 April 1928 and was appointed to West Point from the 2nd Congressional District of New Jersey. His West Point classmates recall: "Lou made a lasting impression on West Point by arriving for Beast Barracks a month late. A congenial personality, John always had a few (thousand) words to add to any subject and will be remembered for returning after cow year with fascinating tales of Paris. Adept in academics and in the field of athletics, his genius for falling asleep at odd moments betrays an unharried state of mind." During his cadet days at West Point Lou went out for Football his plebe and yearling years and earned a Monogram, for Track all four years and earned a Major "A", was with the Ski Club plebe, cow, and first class years, with the German Club cow and first class years, on the Policy Committee cow year, and was a Cadet Lieutenant his first class year. On graduation Lou went in the Corps of Engineers and after completing the Basic Engineers Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia reported to the 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Division in Korea. On October 6, 1952 Lou was killed in action. The 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion named a bridge after Lou that he and his troops had built where he fell in combat. Lou was the second of the Class of 1951, Unites States Military Academy to die in action. Posthumously Louis John Storck was decorated with the Silver Star for distinguished gallantry in action and the Purple Heart for wounds in action against an enemy. Lou was the son of Louis John Storck Cullum No 7177 Class of 1923, KIA in France during WWII. Frank Hamilton roomed with Lou during first class Beast Detail and Lou told him he was the last to join the class. What irony that he was one of the first to die.
