Be Thou At Peace

To the Parents and Family of Captain Nathan Dalley: My family and I share your grief and I wanted you to know that you and Nate are in our thoughts and prayers. I had the privilage and honor of meeting Nate several times these past few years. I met Nate through my son, Steve Sabo, also from the class of 98. Steve and Nate shared an apartment during the SF course and I most recently stayed with them during a visit down there. Nate impressed me as a wonderful, mature and caring young man, I know you were very proud of him, anybody would be. I read something recently that has helped me make some sense of what has been going on in Iraq and with our sons and daughters that are serving over there, I wanted to share it with you: Since May nearly all of Iraq's 400 courts are functioning, the Iraqi judiciary is fully independent; On Oct. 6 power generation hit 4,518 megawatts-exceeding the prewar average; All 22 universities and 43 technical institutes and colleges are open, as are nearly all primary and secondary schools; By Oct. 1 coalition forces had rehab-ed over 1500 schools-500 more than expected; Teachers now earn 12 to 25 times their former salaries; All 240 hospitals and more than 1200 clinics are open; Pharmaceutical distribution has gone from essentially nothing to 700 tons in May to a current total of 12,000 tons; The Coalition has helped administer over 22 million vaccination doses to Iraq's children; A Coalition program has cleared over 14,000 kilometers of weed choked canals allowing tens of thousands of farms to receive irrigation water, this project has created jobs for more than 100,000 men and women; Telephone and potable water services are being restored; 95% of prewar bank customers have service and banks are making loans to finance businesses, Iraq has a single unified currency for the first time in 15 years; Satellite TV dishes are now legal and may be obtained on every street corner, there are more than 170 newspapers; The iraqi government regularly participates in international events, since July the Iraqi government has been represented in over 2 dozen international meetings, including those of the UN General Assembly, the Arab League, the World Bank, Iraq is reopening over 30 embassies around the world; Children and political oppenents are no longer imprisoned or murdered for disagreeing with Saddam. I will cut the list short but it goes on and on. Nate was one of America's finest and he along with the other men and women serving in our military are responsible for making the world a better place for millions of women, men and children.
