Philip S. Day, Jr. May 6, 1926 - December 6, 2003
COLUMBUS, GA - Philip S. Day Jr. died in his sleep December 6.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Dr. Edwin Cooper officiating. Visitation will be at the church following the ceremony.
Born May 6, 1926 in Coral Gables, Fla. Following his father's footsteps, he graduated from the West Point Military Academy in 1948. A highly decorated officer, he served in combat in Korea and Vietnam, retiring in 1978. He later became Director of Emergency Services for the City of San Francisco.
The son of the late Ora Fortner and Philip Steven Day, he is survived by his wife Katherine Meinzen Day, daughter Deborah D. Lind and her two children, Rebecca and Kimberly; son, Michael F. Day; son, Steven P. Day, his wife Evelyn and their two children, Jacqueline and Alexandra; sister, Ann Day Wallick, five step-children, Bruce, Charles and Karen Elliot, Karen Meinzen McEnerney, Robert W. Meinzen, and two nephews, Christopher and Jonathan Dodge.
Col. Day was a member of the Rotary Club, St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Miller-Wilson Sunday School Class, an avid down hill skier, golfer and member of the Green Island Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or Valley Rescue Mission.
