Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jacob Dalton '99 on July 30, 2007:

I was a classmate of Brian's at West Point, but didn't get to know him until the OBC at Ft. Knox. He and I lived together in the same apartment complex in Elizabethtown, and even carpooled on occasion together to classes. Brian was someone who made it worthwhile to come to class everyday. His attitude never changed, he took things in stride, and made the best of everything. His calm demeanor and quick smile helped turn many a frustrating moment into what it really was; nothing to worry about. The last time I spoke with Brian was when he asked me to mail him some of his gear he'd left behind at Knox so he could attend the SFAS. I always knew he was a unique and special person, and I was terribly saddened when I heard of his death this year. Brian was never one to bite his tongue when he felt his convictions were at stake. His courage to honestly and sincerely speak the truth always struck me as a trait I wished I could emulate. Even though I hadn't spoken with him in years, I still felt that Brian was a good friend, and someone I could call on. I am better man for having known him.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Brian's family, Charlotte, Gunnar and Ingrid. I pray for your well-being. Your husband and father was a wonderful man and a great American, and someone whose memory will always be cherished.

Respectfully,
CPT Jake Dalton, '99
