Anthony M. Solberg BEL AIR, MD/LA CROSSE, WI ? Retired Lieutenant Colonel Anthony M. Solberg died at his home in Bel Air on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004. He was 68. Born in La Crosse, he was the only child of the late Dorothy and Maurice Solberg. A graduate of the United States Military Academy class of 1957, his various assignments took him to Germany, West Point, the War College, Vietnam and Iran. He ended his military career at Aberdeen Proving Ground, retiring in 1980. He began a second career with Dynamic Science Inc., and retired as vice president in 1993. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren partake in soccer, basketball games and cross country events and he often could be seen keeping score at Thomas Run Park for women's fast-pitch softball games. Family gatherings often revolved around the rivalry between the Terps and his Duke Blue Devils during March Madness. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Carol, he is survived by five children, Kathryn Bailey and husband Kevin, Mark and wife Kim of Bel Air, Peter and wife Patricia of Valdosta, Ga., Barbara of Fallston, and Jeanne and husband John Thibeault of Hunt Valley; and 10 grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel and Sara Bailey, Robert and David Solberg, Amanda, Anthony and Katherine Solberg and Samantha and Kyle Thibeault. A Christian burial service will be held at St. Ignatius Church in Hickory at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Lung Association of Maryland, 1840 York Road, Suite M, Timonium, MD, 21093.
