Felicisimo Sulit Castillo
West Point, 1940
Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Alma Dacanay on September 26, 2007:
My father passed away last September 11, 2007 in the arms of my mom, surrounded and touched by all his family members, at the Philippine Heart Center, Quezon City, Philippines at 10:10 p.m.
Felicisimo Sulit Castillo was known as “Phil” by all those close to him. A graduate of the USMA West Point of Class 1940, he was called “Casti” by fellow cadets. Experienced the “Death March” at Bataan, and incarcerated as a POW at Capas, Tarlac in 1943. Served the Philippine Army until he retired in 1967 as a Colonel. He was the oldest West Point graduate in the Philippines at the time of his death.
My dad left behind his greatest love: his wife of 60 years, Amorita Roxas Villegas. He is survived by his son, Alex Castillo of Sacramento, CA, daughters, Aida Samson and Aura Matias, both in Manila,Philippines and Amor Castillo of San Jose, CA and Alma Dacanay of Burlingame, CA. He is also mourned by 12 grandsons (Alphi, Addy, AJ, Ryan, Jason, Kyte, Eric, Carlo, RA, AR, Jimboy and Johnmar) and 3 granddaughters (Jemielyn, Danielle, and Aly); and 5 great-grandchildren ( Raychelle, Geiselle, Zander, Jadon and Branden).
Aside from being a respected officer, Phil Castillo was known for being a long time member of the CFM (Catholic Family Movement in the Philippines) and is revered by many for their apostolic work in their communities,UP Diliman and UP Village, as well as the whole Philippines. He was also a founder of many cooperatives geared to help low income families, one of which is now the largest cooperative in Bulacan, Philippines. My father was known to have a gentle smile and his advise was sought after by many.He was a willing servant of God and always thought of helping those less fortunate. He will be truly missed by his family and those that he touched during his lifetime.
