Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Michael Trofinoff on February 4, 2004:

I had the pleasure of first meeting this remarkable young gentleman and his wife during our time at Fort Benning. Matt had just graduated from the academy and Maureen was shadowing me for a few weeks while I was a platoon leader. Matt would eventually be assigned to the 317th EN BN following the basic course. It was here that we met again and served together.

Matt was extremely level-headed and charming. He always managed to bring a sense of happiness and joy to the more desolate training areas the 3ID had sent us. His humor, laugh and that incredibly big smile of his squished between a chin strap and helmet is what I will always remember from my last NTC train up in the middle of Ft. Stewart's swamps. Like many others I felt a piece of me ripped out when I heard the terrible news. I don't think anyone whoever met you would feel otherwise.

Thank you for going Army!
