SEWARD, RICHARD WALTER (Age 69) On Monday, February 16, 2004. Born in 1934 to John R. and Allie Mason Seward at West Point, NY. During his childhood, Mr. Seward lived the life of an army brat, living in places such as Panama, Texas, and Hawaii. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1957. Mr. Seward resigned his commission in 1962 and soon thereafter began his career at The National Bureau of Standards (NIST). The highlight of his career came in 1982, when he was awarded a Bronze Medal for distinguished service. He retired in 1987. Mr. Seward was a devoted father who raised his three children by himself. His grateful children are: Richard, Jr., of Erwin, TN; Russell, of Hagerstown, MD; and Mary L. Bolen, of Huntingtown, MD. Mr. Seward is also survived by his nine grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Services will be held on April 28, 2004. Family and friends are requested to gather by 10:30 am at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Myer, VA for a memorial service. Interment will follow at the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Montgomery Hospice or the charity of your choice.
