Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kevin Kerby on March 17, 2004:

Hans,

You were as a good a friend as anyone could ever ask for. We were classmates at WP and apartment mates at IOBC. What a great time to be officers.

Your path took you from IOBC to Ranger school and on the 82d and finally to the BRO. Mine differed slightly and when we finally saw each other again in Vilseck, Germany, you were preparing to take command of an Infantry Company and I was entering my second year in command of a PSD. It was great seeing you then and catching up on things.

I saw you again in the DFAC on Camp NY Kuwait, just weeks before the tragic event that ended your life. I remember how I heard about it and how I was shaken by it.

I began to recall our shared memories and was truly amazed at how many great times we shared down at Benning, from cold beers down at the pool to complaining about the OPORDS we had to write.

Hans, my friend, you always were an inspiration to those around you and a positive force. You lived, and ulitmately died, believing in "Duty, Honor, Country." You were a great officer and an even better person and friend.

Michelle and I will miss you. R.I.P.

Kev
