Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Jason Stover on February 26, 2008:
I must admit that I was absolutely stunned when I learned of Lt. Haggerty’s passing. I was just browsing the web when I saw the press release page from the USMA.
I had the privilege of serving with Lt. Hags in Bravo Battery, 4-7 at Ft. Lewis in '92-'93. Lt Haggerty was, at the time, the Fire Control Platoon Leader. I can recall him sitting down with me one afternoon when I was having a particularly rough time with some decisions that had been made. He took the time to sit down with me and listened to all of my concerns. He actually listened and took my issues to heart. From that moment on, I knew how lucky we were to have an officer like Lt. Haggerty.
Tricia was also just as supportive of us, as I can recall her inviting "the crew" out to their house in Puyallup for cookouts and a super bowl party.
Tricia - I cannot tell you how much of an honor it was to have served under Paul. He was a leader that inspired loyalty and respect just by being himself. I have always tried to live up to the examples of Honor, Integrity and Leadership that he showed our platoon.
Nicholas and Luke - You weren't around when I knew your father, but if he was half as much a father for us as he was for you two; then you should be proud. He was a truly amazing man.
