Ben, It been a long time. You may not have known it at the time, but you were one of my favorite IOBC students. Your positive attitude and sense of humor always made the classroom instruction and field training bearable. As a trainer of three west point officers to die in this conflict, it is hard for me to swallow as a fellow graduate much less a teacher mentor. I ask myself what did I not teach you, and John Dennison, and Garrison Avery that could have brought you all home safely. Your collective memory drove me to lead my 178 Soldiers through 15 months of combat in East Baghdad and bring them home alive. Its a small consolation, but I wanted you to know that your memory will not be forgotten. CPT Z |
