Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Fred & Kathie Schaefer on March 31, 2004:
A SEA OF FACES?
A sea of faces Watched the young captain Flanked by his soldiers Leaving the base To ride through the streets Of a war torn city His men revered him He was a born leader Army life was his love
A sea of faces With hopeful eyes Watched the convoy Move slowly down their street They wished for order to reign Chaos to diminish Then watched in horror As their hopes were shattered
A sea of faces With mournful eyes Gathered in the gymnasium To show their respect For the young captain In the flag draped coffin Carried by grim faced soldiers Marching in cadence
A sea of faces Watched with sadness As their friend, brother, father, son Was eulogized In the quiet moments that followed The reality was daunting The Long Gray Line Had another member Whose work was done
Thank you Hans for giving your life So we can remain free You exuded the precepts Of Duty, Honor, Country West Point brought us together We feel privileged to have known you
