Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Kelly Kruger on May 29, 2008:
I am sorry to write this so late, but frankly stumbled on this web site for the first time.
Lance was my friend. He would give you the shirt off his back but for asking. We were company mates in H1, went to IOBC and Ranger School together, and served together in the Ranger Battalion. He was hard, honest, and loyal - all the traits one could ever want as an officer.
In the Rangers he fell into bad luck as he was assigned to a unit where there seemed to be a chip on the shoulders of his fellow officers about West Pointers.
I ran into Lance as he was training the Hondurans in Fort Benning while I was at the Advanced Course. He had a new plan for finding his way to war.
I lost contact with Lance for the next several years when a fellow company commander in my battalion, who had known Lance in the 82d, found him writing for Soldier of Fortune Magazine. We wound up reconnecting in an amazing phone call where Lance spent the next two and a half hours telling me of his adventures in Beirut, Afghanistan and so on. His death was a tragic end to so much life in one person.
Lance was as solid as a tree. I wish I would have been able to tell his family how wonderful of a friend he was.
