John William McClanahan Sr, 70, died of pancreatic cancer on 4/26/04 in his Costa Mesa home surrounded by family. John was born in San Antonio Texas on 3/29/34 to Nottie &Marion McClanahan. A graduate of West Point class of ?57, he served as a combat Air Force B-52 pilot during the Vietnam War. His first marriage was blessed with 3 lovely children. In '74 John earned a MBA at the University of Texas. Later John and his children relocated to Tustin where he worked at Hughes Aircraft as a Program Manager. A devoted father, John enjoyed many heartfelt outdoor adventures with his children. In '88 John fell head-over-heels in love with Suzanne Victor and married her on 3/30/90 with the blessings of John?s children and Suzanne?s daughter. Over their 16 years together, John and Suzanne enjoyed spending time with their 9 grandchildren. They adventured on a life long dream tour of Europe in '02, combined with his 45th West Point class reunion. A member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society), John was known as ?Seldom Amos.? Survivors: beloved wife Suzanne McClanahan; children, Marian Britton, Christine Dwello, John McClanahan Jr., Therese McClane; brothers, Don & Robert McClanahan; sister, Anne McClanahan; dear friend, Bob Sheldon. Memorial Services will be held at Fairview Community Church, 2525 Fairview Rd., Costa Mesa on 5/1/04 at 2 PM. Internment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio Texas. The family requests donations to be made to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY, 11714, www.lustgarten.org, (866) 789-1000.
