I am saddened to learn of the death of Col. Gruenther in 2002. Our paths last crossed in 1967-68 in Vietnam. I served under Col. Gruenther and found him to be a true gentleman, intelligent and thorough. As a "draftee" serving in the US Army, I was impressed with the amount of personal trust he placed in me daily. He indeed was a very special person. West Point and the US Army are better with Col. Gruenther's service and it is a testimony to the quality of the man that after all these years I am saddened as I learned of his passing. |
