James Raymond Hannigan

West Point, 1963

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by BG RM Ong '63 on May 12, 2004:

I have always stood in awe of Jim Hannigan. We started Beast Barracks in the same Platoon, and Jim stood out immediately as the only guy among us who knew everything about West Point. He was one of the youngest in the class, the son of a General, studied little but always got "Dean's List" grades and spoke fluent French albeit with a Texas twang.

Jim was a good athlete too, quick on his feet and even quicker with his hands. Boxing and wrestling classes were joyful learning experiences for me except when I had to face Jim in a graded encounter. Needless to say, his P.E. grades were better than mine.

I remember Jim's love for electronics, especially computers which were a relatively new field at West Point at that time. I am sure that he excelled along that line in his later years.

So long, Jim! Au revoir, mon ami!
