Be Thou At Peace

Larry was at Fort Benning with me in and around jump school. My wife was involved in a train wreck North of Atlanta and got bussed to Atlanta and couldn't make contact with me. I remember that she had only loose change in her purse and somehow Larry got the call about her circumstances. He found me and insisted on driving me to Atlanta and helping with everything to bring her back to Benning. This was a continuation of his reputation as an unselfish helper. He was like an older brother to many of us younger guys in the class while we were pressing through our four years. I remember several pieces of advice that were wise and kind. Forty five years have not dimmed that remembrance nor have those years cooled the warmth of this man's kindness. |
