Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Sharon Kneblick Middleton on February 16, 2009:

My father was stationed at Reese Airforce Base in Lubbock, Texas when I first met Colonel Baxter.

As head of his family, he raised a great bunch of kids! I went to youth classes on Sunday night. We were always welcome at their house before or after classes (on base). Maurie, Bud, my brother Michael and I would get together and I always got a kick out of Colonel Baxter.

As leader of the base, (Reese), Colonel Baxter stood out as a man larger than life. He was a presence that everyone respected, but was also liked by everyone. Never threatening, carrying out dignity, charm and grace.

We are all blessed with having known him, and should try to follow in his footsteps.

Say "Hello" to St. Peter for me. And thanks for being such a positive influence in my life.
