Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Shaw on June 4, 2004:

Nate,

I miss you brother. I remember how anxious you were to head out to 1st AD and get away from Bragg. I remember telling you how much you were going to love cruising your bike around Europe. I also remember thinking that, some time after OIF, you, myself and Steve were going to find a way to get together and go riding again... just like Benning and pre-OIF.

Over Memorial Day weekend, my dad and I rode our bikes during the parade to the Vietnam Memorial. A lot of vets. I told many of them about you and what you did for our country. For my dad and the old-timers, it was a chance to honor their generation's sacrifices in Vietnam; for me it was to honor you.

I'm sure you and your monster Bronco are enjoying wide-open spaces up somewhere better than where we are now. Take care. I will never forget you.

Jim.
