Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Ginger Hallquest on April 6, 2009:

To all those in the corps a man is not only measured by his rank in class or the medals on his chest. The real measure of a hero is how he lives his life. Allan "Bear" Shuford fought a raging war for 12 years and he did not surrender without a fight. He was a double lung transplant and kidney survivor. His family is his legacy. Kyle his middle son is already a hero at the young age of 23. Donating his kidney to save his Dad 5 years ago. He is now a fire fighter protecting the public. Andrew the eldest has the tenacity of his Dad and he will be the one that keeps us all honest; just like 'Bear'. His daughter Ami, Daddy's little girl is pursuing a nursing care to help others. Emma Rose, the first little granddaughter, thank you Lord for bringing her to you and us!! The Army lost a great man and no medal could ever cover all the lives he has touched and all the transplant patients he has inspired and helped. For "Bear" it was always "Hell No I am not ready to GO!!!" "May God hold you in the palm of his hand.." and watch over all those who love you, especially your amazing wife Linda who kept you going; no drill sergeant could match wits with her, but as we all know it came from love and fear......
Do not worry I will keep my promise to you, I will keep them safe.

The attached was an article written about this man I am proud to call my brother Clarence Allan Shuford in the Denver Post by a sportswriter friend who had lived in New Orleans. (Please take the time to be touched by this wonderful article).
