Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SFC T on April 30, 2009:

Sir,
I'm sorry it has taken me this long to talk to you, but there hasn't been a day goes by that I haven't thought of you.

I just wanted you to know that your "Troopers" are still thinking of you. I know we didn't know each other for very long but I want you to know that you have left a very big inspiration on me. The day I lost my first Soldier you told me "Sergeant T lets go find who did this". Knowing that I wasn't really ready to do this you felt this was the right thing to do. Then I thought you were crazy, but now you were exactly right I needed to get that anger out of my body.

Sir, at that time you didn't know I had turned into someone I didn't really know, but the way you carried yourself calmed me down and made me realize what I really was there for. It wasn't about me. It was then that I had realized that the men that I had served with were there for the same reason.

Sir I'm not sure if you conducted the Cemetery Tour when you were a Cadet, but today we do. We talked about the Soldiers that have left a legacy, and sir you have left me with more than I could ever talk about. You sacrificed your life for many others that may have passed that day. Whenever I hear the word "HERO" I think of you.
