William Justus Henderson

West Point, 1944

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Lee Henderson Rhodes on May 13, 2009:

William J. Henderson was my father. We children grew up with the West Point tenants of Duty-Honor-Country and the Cadet Honor Code, not as military training, but as decent and ethical rules to live by. He was a soft spoken man of strong conviction, yet never spoke ill of anyone. Bill Henderson was always available to help a colleague who might ask for assistance. He liked good scotch.
Among his successes include serving as Director of the Vela (nuclear detection) Satellite Program and as the Titan III System Program Director. After leaving the military, he was employed in civilian industry, taught at St Micheal's College in Vermont and then returned to the warm California clime to enjoy full retirement.

"And when our work is done,
Our course on earth is run,
May it be said, "Well done;
Be thou at peace."

I am proud I had such a father.
